When history joins the table at Château Morreau
There are places you go to dine.
And there are places where dining is part of a story.
At Château Morreau, the cuisine has long belonged to that second philosophy.
For more than seven years, Sandra has been developing her own culinary world there. She draws her inspiration from recipes, ingredients, and traditions that have stood the test of time, from the Middle Ages to the Belle Époque.
Old cookbooks, herbs, forgotten ingredients, sometimes surprising combinations, and techniques from the past form the foundation of her work.
But the intention is absolutely not to simply reproduce the past.
Château Morreau is a living house.
Sandra tries to understand the soul of an old recipe, to discover its history and ingredients, and then to reinterpret it in a contemporary kitchen with her own sensitivity.
In this way, a flavor from several centuries ago can come back to life one evening on a modern plate.
And perhaps that is exactly where a bit of the magic begins…
A cuisine that has found its own identity
Over the years, this approach has grown into a true signature of Château Morreau, one that is particularly appreciated by our guests.
Continuing to refine oneself does not mean searching for a new direction.
It means going a little further along the path you have chosen for yourself.
With this in mind, Sandra recently traveled to Paris for a Plat & Dessert day at l’École Ritz Escoffier.
New techniques, different methods, even more precision, and new insights into contemporary cuisine thus enrich the work she began seven years ago.
The Ritz does not change her culinary story.
It simply adds a few new pages to it.
Not a restaurant… and that is a conscious choice
Château Morreau has no ambition to become a restaurant.
Our region has wonderful restaurants and excellent chefs. We are happy to leave that profession to them and prefer to follow our own path.
Because here, the cuisine cannot actually be seen as separate from the rest.
It is part of the castle, the park, the rooms, the history, the seasons, the conversations, and those long evenings where one sometimes forgets what time it is.
It can begin with a walk through the park, a glass of wine, a conversation by an open window overlooking the estate… and then naturally end up at the table.
The cuisine thus becomes a chapter of the stay, rather than its destination.
A house where people return
We find that same philosophy in the Clubhouse of Château Morreau.
In addition to our regular members, various clubs and organizations, including Ladies Clubs, Inner Wheel, and other associations, have chosen the castle as the permanent location for their monthly meetings.
And because of this, something arises that we particularly value.
Faces become familiar.
One finds the same table and atmosphere again, while the park changes with the seasons. A conversation from the previous month is continued, and with every meeting, something new is discovered from Sandra's kitchen.
The cuisine also becomes a story that slowly unfolds over time.
That is why our table remains deliberately discreet and reserved for guests staying at Château Morreau, members of the Clubhouse, and clubs and organizations that hold their meetings here.
We do not try to bring people to Château Morreau just to come and eat.
We prefer that those who step through our doors take the time to experience the place.
The castle.
The park.
A room.
An encounter.
A glass shared together.
An old recipe coming back to life.
And somewhere in between all that… a table.
Because at Château Morreau, the kitchen is not a restaurant.
It is an extra flavor in the story of the castle.
